More About Jason Y. Lee
The son of Korean immigrants, Jason Y. Lee was raised with strict but fairly standard guidelines for life. Get good grades, go to an Ivy League, get a good job, and live a successful, happy life. Lee did just that—graduated with honors from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and landed a six-figure consultant job at Bain & Company—but the happiness he was promised never materialized. It wasn’t until he stepped off the beaten path that he found true fulfillment.
With a belief in the power of storytelling to change the world, Lee quit his stable corporate job to make YouTube videos, long before the platform became the behemoth it is today. He founded the Jubilee Project as a non-profit, creating digital content to raise awareness and money for social causes. Years later, he pivoted to found Jubilee Media and has since led the company to meteoric growth year after year.
In addition to Jubilee’s viral videos, the company has taken its focus on human connection into the tech space with the launch of its dating app with a twist, Nectar. Lee also produced Jubilee’s documentary Accepted, which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival and was nominated for an Emmy. Beyond his work with Jubilee, Lee is a general partner at actor Simu Liu’s Markham Valley Ventures, a VC fund dedicated to investing in AAPI-led startups.
In a world that seems to become increasingly divided every day, Jason Y. Lee is committed to bringing us back together with more compassion, empathy, and understanding.
