About

Acclaimed actress Bellamy Young notably starred in her award-winning role as ‘President Mellie Grant’ on ABC/Shonda Rhimes’ Peabody Award-winning series, SCANDAL. More recent television work includes HULU's THE OTHER BLACK GIRL, with Eric McCormick & Garcelle Beauvais; the ABC drama, PROMISED LAND, with John Ortiz; FOX’s critically acclaimed drama PRODIGAL SON, alongside Michael Sheen; as well as the revival of THE WALTONS franchise as the iconic 'Olivia Walton.'

On the bigger screen, Young was in Ava Duvernay’s A WRINKLE IN TIME for Disney, Randall Wallace's WE WERE SOLDIERS, and JJ Abrams' MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: III. She has also appeared in numerous independent films including the Sundance favorite THE FREEBIE starring Dax Shepard, NIGHT STALKER alongside Lou Diamond Philips, and Zoe Cassavetes’ DAY OUT OF DAYS. In her home state of North Carolina, she produced and starred in the indie A COUNTRY REMEDY.

On Broadway, she originated the role of 'Mary' in Cy Coleman's THE LIFE; Off-Broadway, she was 'Meg' in Stephen Sondheim's revival of his MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG. Other favorite collaborations include creating the role of 'Margaret' with the Randy Newman and David Mamet for their version of FAUST as well as 'LouAnn' in the world premiere of Landford Wilson's BOOK OF DAYS.

Young was born in Asheville, NC. She was adopted out of foster care at an early age. She displayed a love of singing and dancing, and her adopted parents tried to give her opportunities to pursue her interests through pageants and regional theater there. After graduating from Yale University and the BADA training program at Oxford College in England, she moved to New York to follow her dreams.

Caretaking also came early in Young’s life, as she had lost four fathers and step-fathers before losing her adopted mom in 2023. She understands how vital but confounding it can be to be a health care advocate for those you love.

Young is proud to be a Gender Justice Advocate & Ambassador for the humanitarian organization CARE, for whom she has just created the podcast She Leads With CARE, to uplift stories of personal transformational change made by women around the world. She remains very involved with the American political process, firmly believing it takes consensus and communication to make democracy work. She has a YA sci-fi novel coming out in the summer of 2025, and you can listen to her album Far Away So Close on all platforms.
