Maggie Kang is the award-winning creator and director of the global phenomenon KPop Demon Hunters. In her directorial debut, the longtime animator has taken the world by storm with a film that has broken box office and streaming records, dominated the music charts, and is currently sweeping awards season. Originating from Kang’s own idea, KPop Demon Hunters is a standout example of culture-driven, genre-blending storytelling—merging music, mythology, and animation for worldwide audiences of all ages.

More About Maggie Kang
Over the course of her career, Kang has helped shape some of the most recognizable animated franchises in the world. She began at DreamWorks Animation as a story artist, contributing to films including Puss in Boots, The Croods: A New Age, Rise of the Guardians, Kung Fu Panda 3, Trolls, Shrek Forever After, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, and Over the Hedge. She later worked at Illumination Entertainment on Minions: The Rise of Gru and served as Head of Story at Warner Animation Group for The LEGO Ninjago Movie. Through Kpop Demon Hunters, she found a home at Sony Pictures Animation as director, writer, and creative leader.

Born in Seoul, South Korea and raised in Toronto, Canada, Kang studied classical animation at Sheridan College, an experience that continues to inform her approach to storytelling, collaboration, and global creative work.
