More About Jon BatisteRaised in a legendary New Orleans musical family, Batiste grew up surrounded by jazz, gospel, and the blues, playing in the family band before finding his own voice at the piano. That deep love for storytelling through music has shaped a career that spans genres, generations, and even mediums, from albums to film scores to symphonies.
His latest project, Beethoven Blues (Batiste Piano Series, Vol. 1) (2024), reimagines Beethoven’s classics through the raw, soulful lens of the blues—an unexpected fusion that speaks to Batiste’s love for blending tradition with innovation. Before that, his Grammy-nominated album World Music Radio (2023) brought together artists like Lana Del Rey and Lil Wayne in a joyful, genre-defying exploration of music as a universal language. That same spirit carried into his first-ever headlining tour, Uneasy Tour: Purifying the Airwaves for the People, where he turned every performance into a shared experience.
Beyond the stage, Batiste’s creative vision extends to film. His 2024 score for Saturday Night—a film about the chaotic first-ever broadcast of Saturday Night Live—was composed and performed live on set, capturing the energy of that historic moment in real-time. However, perhaps his most personal project is American Symphony, the 2023 Netflix documentary following his journey to compose a symphony while navigating his wife’s battle with leukemia. Produced in partnership with Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground, the film became a powerful meditation on love, loss, and the healing power of art. Its original song, “It Never Went Away,” earned an Oscar nomination and two Grammy nods.
Batiste’s impact on music and culture is undeniable. His 2021 album We Are made Grammy history with 11 nominations across seven genres, winning five—including Album of the Year. His work on Pixar’s Soul earned him an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and a BAFTA. And for seven years, he brought his signature energy and warmth into millions of homes as bandleader for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Through it all, one thing remains constant: Jon Batiste believes in the power of music to bring people together. Whether performing through the streets of New Orleans, composing for the big screen, or improvising on stage, he’s not just playing—he’s creating something that lasts.
